Our Brand Ambassadors

Welcoming the Ambassadors at Bio-D HQ

This year, we've welcomed five new faces to the Bio-D family as brand ambassadors. Our newly-recruited ambassadors all share our values and, as the year progresses, will provide us with valuable input on new products and other elements as our company continues to grow.

Sam

Sam

Tell us about yourself Sam:

My name is Sam and I’m 30 years old. I live in Edinburgh with my partner Barbara and our son, Elliott, who’s a year and a half. We moved here three years ago having previously lived in Bergen, Norway, for two years.

We’re a vegan family and only wish to put our time and money into things that do not use animal ingredients and do not test on animals.

I currently work for a local charity that runs a befriending service for physically disabled adults.

Since Elliott was four months old, we have been taking him to a wooden toys playgroup, which we recently managed ourselves too. Our goal there was to be as 'green' as possible: organic food and drink, non-plastic cups and bowls for the kids, composting green waste, and generally reducing impact at every level.

How and when did you first discover Bio-D?

I first started using Bio-D products in 2010 after meeting Barbara, who at the time was buying your products for a vegan houseshare she was part of in London.

We use cloth nappies for Elliott, so I can assure you that we get through plenty of Bio-D washing powder. While for some household tasks we sometimes make D.I.Y. home-made concoctions, using castille soda crystals and so on, for some jobs you just need something pre-made and effective that isn’t going to ‘cost the earth’. That's when we turn to Bio-D. As the products are concentrated, we find that we don't have to use very much of it to have the desired effect, especially with the multi-surface cleaner.

We are also fond of the fact that Bio-D is based in the UK, as we try to support local companies. I have had eczema all of my life as well as asthma, so it's great that Bio-D products use as few perfumes and other irritants as possible.

Favourite Bio-D products?

We currently use the sanitising hand washes, the multi-surface cleaner, toilet cleaner, washing-up liquid and washing powder – so all of those!

Lynsey

Lynsey

Tell us about yourself Lynsey:

I'm 34, and I've recently moved to Leicestershire, having lived in London for the previous six years. I'm from just outside of London, and I've lived in both Copenhagen and Ireland.

My husband and I are both vegan. We are both members of the Vegan Society and the Animal Welfare Party and support numerous animal charities. We have one rescue cat called Kitty.

I write an ethical lifestyle blog, which I started to raise awareness of ethical issues, including veganism, animal welfare, natural/organic beauty, fair trading, and environmental campaigns. The subject areas within the blog closely mirror the lifestyle we lead.

How and when did you first discover Bio-D?

My journey to veganism and ethical living actually started with choosing a chemical free lifestyle approximately 10 years ago. We watched a documentary by Sarah Beeny on Channel 4 about the chemicals in your make-up and toiletries. The next day I pretty much dumped everything and started afresh. I haven’t looked back.

We first started using Bio-D then, and became huge fans of the whole range. The products made it easy for us to switch to using chemical-free products. They make us feel good about our footprint on the planet, and feel that we’re doing the best we possibly can.

As a vegan, it's wonderful to find an entire range that's suitable for vegans and entirely cruelty free. I also encouraged my father to switch to Bio-D and it’s helped his skin allergies to clear up.

Favourite Bio-D products?

All of them! But particularly the laundry liquid, fabric conditioner, and the beautifully scented hand washes.

Mark

Mark

Tell us about yourself Mark:

I’m Mark, a 44 year old dad of two. I work in commercial property and my wife works for a local health charity.

I'm a vegetarian and life-long, practical environmentalist. I’m a vegetarian primarily for environmental reasons and I’m against factory farming. I think we should all eat less meat and that it should be organic. Triggered by leaving university and not having to cook with my flatmates, Simon and FH.

I try to encourage my family to be sensibly green through actions and example, rather than words. I tend to find that most of what I say gets ignored most of the time! I try to have fun with my girls (9 and 6 years) repairing things (Sugru is great) and reusing things for crafts, DIY projects etc.

How and when did you first discover Bio-D?

We've been buying Bio-D for a good few years; initially through Natural Collection and now directly through the website.

My wife, Jenny, is asthmatic and my elder daughter has occasional bouts of eczema, and we find that Bio-D is one of very few brands that don’t exacerbate symptoms.

We love the products because they work, aren't over fragranced, are available in bulk and locally made by a company that appears to be genuinely concerned about their products' environmental impacts.

Favourite Bio-D products?

Multi-surface sanitiser – it’s fantastic at getting rid of grease (e.g. cooker hood); Home & garden sanitiser – smells like an environmentally with-it Dettol! Dishwasher powder – I have loads of uses for the empty tubs (and it cleans well).

Francesca

Francesca

Tell us about yourself Francesca:

My name is Francesca, I'm 23 and I’m a London based artist and ethical blogger. I’m originally from Newcastle (toon toon toon) but have lived in London for five years. I trained as a dancer and currently an artist in residence in East London, as well as regularly touring with the One Thousand Project.

I’m also the founder of the blog Ethical Unicorn, where I focus on zero waste, ethically made and cruelty free lifestyle, fashion and beauty. I’m a member of the Ethical Blogger Network and I love helping people solve problems and find ways to live a more sustainable, ethical life in any circumstance. We’re all on a journey, but I hope that I can help make it easier for people along the way!

How and when did you first discover Bio-D?

Through an eco-friendly dry cleaners called BLANC in London. I wandered into their store one day to see what they were about (they’re now my favourite business in London) and found they were also selling a range of products inside. Bio-D was the first one I saw, I looked into the brand more and was sold from there.

Favourite Bio-D products?

The washing powder and fabric conditioner are life savers (dancers go through clothes pretty fast!!), but also the washing-up liquid is great.

Louise

Louise

Tell us about yourself Louise:

Hi, I’m Louise. I’m 62 and retired two years ago after 39 years in teaching, mainly as a Primary Teacher but also as a Teacher Adviser supporting and training other teachers. My husband and I moved to Clitheroe in Lancashire just a few months ago. We have six grandchildren ranging in age from 5 months to 6 years, and much of our time is spent with them. We also have two cocker spaniels, Amber (15) and Bella(9) who we enjoy walking in the beautiful countryside we are surrounded by.

My 'resolution' for my retirement was to be as eco-friendly as possible.

How and when did you first discover Bio-D?

I have been using Bio-D’s Laundry Liquid for several years, which I purchased when we visited Clitheroe from our previous home in Burnley. Now we’ve moved I’m able to buy and use other products regularly.

For many years I have been keen to use products that have minimal impact on the environment. The arrival of the grandchildren has made this even more important to me, as I want to protect the environment for them and set a good example.

Favourite Bio-D products?

I particularly like the toilet cleaner and washing-up liquid, and I plan to try other products just as soon as I have used up the ones I brought from our previous home as I don't like to waste anything.
